Shakti: Tiny Desk Concert

NPR Music, GO YOU!!!

This made my day.

John McLaughlin did an album titled Shakti in 1977.

There is also a documentary about it.

“Sakti [shakti] means “power”; in Hindu philosophy and theology sakti is understood to be the active dimension of the godhead, the divine power that underlies the godhead’s ability to create the world and to display itself.”

The first album of John McLaughlin’s that won my heart was him with the One Truth Band: Electric Dreams. I feel like I know every single note of that album, of course I probably don’t. To this day it is very near and dear to me. Listen to the entire album here. So to see Mr McLaughlin still doing “shakti” warms my soul.

NPR music can be very thrilling sometimes. 🙂
