NaNoWriMo 2022

So as I’m all immersed in creating this new website for myself I am also doing NaNoWriMo this year which means I’m committed to writing at least 1,667 words per day. The way to “win” NaNo is to write a novel (or whatever) of >50,000 words by the end of November (NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth).

This year I decided to do 30 Stories in 30 Days. All fiction. By the end of the first week I learned striving to write 30 stories is harder, for me, than focusing on one story line and set of characters for an entire novella of 50,000 words. I have successfully won NaNo three prior times. Stories, much harder.

As an added challenge I’m publishing my stories on Medium. I think I wanted to do that to keep myself honest and actually do 30 in 30 rather than knock out 5 or 6 stories and then skip a few days, repeat. I write, I read through once to correct, and then I post. So they’re raw, not really edited, because I’m only spending a 2-3 hours per day.

All the stories were planned to be written as a women being the protagonist but I have done one (Death) from a man’s p.o.v. All the stories will be least 1,667 words each. Also, of note, some of the stories are based on prompts from the Bay Area Writers League (BAWL) of which I am a member.

I love NaNoWriMo – it breaks through the analysis paralysis and I can just write. Which is what I’m good at. I pretty much suck at editing. So, if you read them please post here or on Medium and let me know if you find mistakes, have suggestions, etc. Would love to get feedback.

Thanks for reading. 🙂

November 18th Update: I have ceased posting the 30 in 30 on Medium.com

The reasons are kind of complicated. I’m not quitting NaNo, in fact I’m about to write my story of the day soon as I’m done here. Today it’ll be about Road Rage 🙂 But I don’t need the added challenge of Medium. I’ve posted half a month and I’ll, probably, leave them up but no more on medium.com for this year.
